The Associated Press has declared Assemblyman Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) the winner in New York State Senate 40 over County Legislator Michael Kaplowitz (D, I – Somers).
“At the end of the day we’ve got to get back to the issues that were at the core of this campaign, capping property taxes, freezing school taxes, eliminating unfunded mandates, and finally reforming Albany,” Ball said Tuesday night. “As an independent voice in that New York State Senate, where it looks like we will hold a slim majority, my voice will be extremely effective and extremely powerful. The people of the 40th Senate District and beyond can look forward to having somebody who as a young leader has learned that you don’t have to fight every single battle, I have the scar tissue on my back to show that, but also somebody who is willing to stand up and fight for what’s right. Standing up is a very powerful thing, and I look forward to doing that.”
With 92% of the votes counted, Ball holds a 52-48 lead that includes a 10-point victory in Putnam County and an 18-point victory in Dutchess County.
