BALL AND LALOR PROPOSE TUITION REDUCTION FOR TROOPS AFFECTED BY SEQUESTER

Albany, N.Y. – (3/14/13) – Senator Greg Ball (R,C,I-Patterson) and Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor (R,C,I-Fishkill) will host a press conference with a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers from the Assembly and Senate to propose tuition reductions for servicemen and women attending SUNY and CUNY schools who are facing the suspension of their tuition assistance from the military due to sequester-mandated cuts.

The Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard have announced that they will be suspending tuition assistance programs for active-duty and reserve personnel. Those currently enrolled will not receive tuition assistance for future classes. This bill would honor the promise our country made to our servicemen and women and allow those already enrolled in SUNY or CUNY schools to finish their degrees through tuition reductions matching the missing federal assistance.

What: Proposed Tuition Reductions For Servicemen and Women Affected By Sequester

Who:   Senator Greg Ball, Assemblyman Kieran Lalor and other members of New York State Senate and Assembly.

When: Monday,  March 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

Where: LCA Room 130: Legislative Office Building, Albany
