Carmel, N.Y. – (8/07/13) – The Carmel Town Board has officially nominated Marjorie L. Nichols Keith into the 2013 40th Senate District Women of Distinction Ceremony and Yvonne Rustico into the 2013 40th Senate District Veterans’ Hall of Fame.

Created and hosted by Senator Ball, The Women Of Distinction Ceremony and the Veterans’ Hall of Fame were designed to honor outstanding women and veterans from throughout the 40th Senate District. Towns, villages and cities district-wide are currently in the process of selecting their nominees that will eventually lead up to two large hall of fame ceremonies.

“I am honored to accept both Ms. Keith and Ms. Rustico as Carmel’s hall of fame nominations,” said Senator Greg Ball. “When I was younger, I was very involved in the 4-H program for over 10 years, so I truly understand and appreciate all the great work Ms. Keith does for this program and for our community every day. As the Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee and a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy I greatly appreciate Ms. Rustico’s service to our country. I am also greatly looking forward to meeting her small army of grandchildren and great grandchildren.”

They have both selflessly donated countless hours of their time to our community and are both well deserving of these awards,” said Carmel Town Supervisor Ken Schmitt. “I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Senator Greg Ball for organizing both of these great events.”

Marjorie Nichols Keith is a lifelong Putnam County resident. She was born in the Town of Carmel, educated in the Carmel School System and resides with her family in the Carmel hamlet.  She has led a notable 38 year career with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County, serving as Executive Director since 1987.  During this time, Ms. Keith has served on numerous Cornell University Cooperative Extension committees and work teams connecting the research and knowledge of Cornell University, New York’s land grant university, with the needs of Putnam County residents, businesses, and communities, in the areas of environment and natural resources, community and economic vitality and youth development.  She has received state and national Cooperative Extension recognitions for distinguished service and program excellence.

Ms. Keith extends her leadership skills into her community life, currently serving on the Putnam Hospital Center Foundation Board of Directors, Putnam County Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors and SCORE – Putnam Chapter Advisory Board.  She has also served on the Putnam Hospital Center Board of Trustees, United Way of Westchester and Putnam’s Board of Directors and various project committees, Putnam Alliance Board of Directors and more.

“I am very honored to receive this recognition.  I have worked alongside many wonderful people in my professional and community life,” said Marjorie Nichols Keith. “I would like to thank Supervisor Ken Schmitt and Town Board members for the Town of Carmel for the nomination and Senator Greg Ball for creating the Women of Distinction Hall of Fame.”

Yvonne Rustico served as a Navy Wave from 1944-1945. She worked in Washington D.C. in where she discharged military officers. When she was discharged she reached the distinction of Yeomen 3rd Class. Ms. Rustico is very involved in the community; she was a Girl Scout Troop Leader and is also very active in her church. Ms. Rustico was a secretary at both Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Hartford, Connecticut and at Lakeland School District in Yorktown. Ms. Rustico now runs her own business with the Shaklee Corporation. Ms. Rustico is the proud mother of three boys and two girls; she has 17 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren with one more on the way.

The 2nd Annual Women of Distinction Ceremony will be hosted on Saturday, September 8, 2013 at the Putnam County Emergency Services Building starting at 2pm.

The 3rd Annual Veterans’ Hall of Fame Ceremony will be hosted on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Mahopac High School starting at 6pm.
