ALBANY, N.Y.  – Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) of the 40th Senate District, which includes Pound Ridge and Lewisboro, will be joined by former President Bill Clinton this week on a new commission designed to consolidate state government and save taxpayer money.

The 30-member spending and government efficiency commission (SAGE) was created by Governor Andrew Cuomo to consolidate state government and reduce redundant spending.

“The old way of doing business in Albany is no longer an option,” Ball said. “I’m thrilled and applaud Governor Cuomo for bringing new attention and focus to SAGE’s important mission by enlisting President Clinton.”

Ball said that bringing Clinton into the fold, the governor is illustrating Albany’s commitment to cutting government waste and needless bureaucracy.

“The former president is a dynamic thinker and is the exact public boost we need for SAGE to demonstrate our public commitment to cut through the clutter of state bureaucracy, nepotism and patronage,” he said.

Ball said the legislature is beginning to show that it can work in a bipartisan fashion by teaming with Cuomo to cut state spending, passing an on-time balance budget while not increasing taxes and capping property taxes.

“That type of progress took real teamwork and I applaud the governor for heightening SAGE’s image, the senator said. “I’m honored to be part of a team that is focused specifically on cutting duplicative services and getting government out of the way so that beleaguered entrepreneurs and small businesses can do what they do best: create jobs.”

Several months ago, Ball launched YouCutAlbany.com, a website that allows taxpayers to cast votes for specific wasteful spending items. Ball said he has received hundreds of ideas and will bring them to SAGE.

Ball will join Clinton, Cuomo and other members of SAGE in Albany on Tuesday at noon for a full day of meetings and a keynote address by the former president. (ARTICLE)
