Brewster, N.Y. – 04/02/2014 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) will host a roundtable meeting with school superintendents throughout the area to speak about the recent heroin and opioid epidemic. The meeting will take place on Friday, April 4th at 1:30 PM at the Carmel Town Hall: 60 McAlpin Avenue, Carmel, NY.

“The epidemic of heroin addiction plaguing our communities must be confronted head on. It is sickening to read and hear of the countless deaths in our community. We must get to the kids before it’s too late, talk is cheap, and what is needed is funding and resources. As legislators, we must do everything in our power to protect our children from drug addiction,” said Senator Greg Ball.

Attendees of the roundtable will be shown a sneak peak of  “Chasing It”, a documentary that focuses on raising the awareness of the dangers of heroin use. The documentary was produced by Peers Influence Peers Partnership, a non-profit that provides an opportunity for youth to use their influence with their peers to make healthy life style choices.

“The scourge of heroin and other opiate addiction is visiting communities all across the country, in large cities and small towns like Putnam Valley where Doug Greenwich and his family live. Peers Influence Peers has worked this past year on the production of a documentary film, “Chasing It” which looks at this explosive issue,” said Frank Reale, President of Peers Influence Peers Partnership. “We will be sharing this film with local high school students and their parents in an effort to engage our communities in a realistic effort to deal with heroin and other opiate addiction.”

Senator Greg Ball was recently named a member of the Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction to develop recommendations and to prevent and treat addition.

Senator Ball is also working with Senator Boyle, Chairman of the Senate Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Committee, to host a Heroin and Opioid Addiction roundtable on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 6:00 PM at the Paladin Center Tactical Training Facility located at 39 Seminary Hill Rd, Carmel Hamlet, NY 10512.
