MAHOPAC, N.Y. – Veterans from the towns of Pawling and Beekman have been selected for induction into state Senator Greg Ball’s Annual Veterans’ Hall of Fame.

Ball asked towns, villages and cities throughout his 40th District to nominate a veteran to be inducted into what will be the third class of Hall of Fame vets; they will officially be accepted into the Hall on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m., during a ceremony at the Mahopac Falls Elementary School, 100 Myrtle Ave, Mahopac.

“I created the Veterans’ Hall of Fame to honor outstanding individuals who have nobly and selflessly served the United States of America,” Ball said. “Nominated by their communities, these heroic men and women have pursued a distinguished path in both their military and civilian lives, demonstrating admirable qualities and reaching great achievements worthy of this recognition.”

This year’s Hall of Fame class of inductees includes 23 veterans, including Lt. Col. Gerald Richardson of Beekman and Sgt. Michael Kelly of Pawling.

A Vietnam and Korean War veteran, Richardson served in the U.S. Army for 25 years. He is a West Point graduate and has received numerous awards and medals for his service, including the Vietnam Campaign Medal with four battle stars.

Richardson is a founding father of the West Point Society of the Mid Hudson Region and is active in his community, where he volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America for over 20 years and served on the Town of Beekman Planning Board and Town Trails Committee.

Kelly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from December 1977 to May 1982. He received training at Parris Island in South Carolina and was subsequently stationed at Camp Lejeune and ended his tour at 29 Palms.

Kelly is a lifelong resident of Pawling with strong roots in the community, serving as a member of the American Legion Hasler-Kamp Post 215, where he has served with distinction as the Post’s armorer. He currently holds the position of first vice-commander.

“These extraordinary veterans devoted their lives to a cause greater than one’s self, nobly dedicating themselves to preserving the safety and freedom of the American people through acts of courage, honor and integrity,” Ball said

Each veteran honored at the Nov. 21 ceremony will also be included on a traveling wall that will tour local municipalities and schools throughout the 40th District. (ARTICLE)
