Brewster, N.Y. – 03/17/2014 – Joe Devery, President of the Jefferson Village Owners Club, presented Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) with a signed photo from the members of the Jefferson Village Veterans Club in Yorktown Heights to thank Senator Ball for his efforts to honor local veterans.
“The Jefferson Village Veterans Club thinks very highly of Senator Ball and all he has done for us. Every year, Senator Ball takes us to dinner at the Putnam County Golf Course for Thanksgiving. He also took a group of us to Washington, DC to see the World War II Memorial,” said Joe Devery. “The veterans here love him, the seniors love him. We really appreciate him and we gave him the signed photo as a token of our gratitude.”
The signed photo presented to Senator Ball is a photo of the USS New York, a United States Navy ship that was forged with steel that was salvaged from the World Trade Center.
“Receiving this signed photo from the Jefferson Village Veterans Club is a huge honor for me. It is truly a privilege to represent such wonderful constituents that literally put their lives on the line to fight for our freedom. While I am very appreciative for this recognition, the hundreds of volunteers that help make these events possible are the real people that deserve this credit,” said Senator Greg Ball. “To see the smile on the faces of these veterans as they attend the numerous events we host, makes it all worth it.”
Throughout the year Senator Greg Ball hosts numerous events to honor veterans. Annually Senator Ball hosts a Veterans Thanksgiving Dinner where veterans and their families are welcome for a free Thanksgiving dinner. Senator Ball also hosts an annual Veterans Hall of Fame Ceremony to honor local veterans for their service. This past September, Senator Ball organized a trip for dozens of World War II veterans to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. Currently, Senator Ball is working with Purple Heart Homes to assist a service-connected disabled veteran in fully renovating a home within the next year.
Legislatively, as Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, Senator Greg Ball fights everyday to deliver for our veterans. Last year, Senator Ball championed a hire-a-vet tax credit that created a state tax cut for each veteran hired by a business. In addition to the tax credit, Senator Ball also successfully passed legislation to create the first ever New York State Veterans Cemetery. This legislative session Senator Ball’s top goal is to pass the “NY Jobs For Heroes Program,” which would create a 5% state contract set aside for small businesses owned by a service-connected disabled veteran.
“Senator Greg Ball is a true champion for our veterans. Throughout the year, Senator Ball and his army of volunteers host numerous events to thank our veterans. It brought tears to my eyes to see veterans enter the room to a standing ovation at last year’s Veterans Thanksgiving Dinner,” said Yorktown Councilman Terrence Murphy.
