I currently serve as chairman of state Sen. Greg Ball’s Veteran’s Advisory Council. In November of 2011, Sen. Ball held the inaugural “40th District Veterans Hall of Fame.” At this ceremony 27 veterans from every town, city and village in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties were honored for their service, bravery and dedication to this great country.

As one of the honorees, the event was an emotional and special experience. Many of the veterans on the stage with me had never received any recognition for their accomplishments as military service members or the community service they do as veterans. After the ceremony, Sen. Ball and his staff built a “Veterans Wall of Fame” that had a picture and biography of each veteran who was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Sen. Ball arranged for me and other veterans to bring the wall around to different schools and public forums. By doing this, veterans from World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War were able to share their stories and experiences with the students.

Every day our country loses 740 World War II veterans. I thank Sen. Ball for giving these veterans a chance to pass on their legacy of courage, of honor and integrity.
