LoHud: Senator Ball wants to end MTA tax for suburbs

June 8 - Republican Sens. Greg Ball of Carmel, Putnam County, and Lee Zeldin of Shirley, Suffolk County, and Assemblyman George Latimer, D-Rye, Westchester County, are sponsoring legislation that would exempt small businesses with 25 or fewer employees and schools outside New York City from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s payroll tax beginning Jan. 1, 2012. It would phase out the tax for all other businesses in Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District counties outside New York City by Jan. 1, 2014.

One Response to LoHud: Senator Ball wants to end MTA tax for suburbs

  1. Bob O'Brien says:

Why is this bill stopping at the businesses and schools?
We are also being taxed at the rate of $25 PEWR CAR PER YEAR when we renew the registrations !!!
Someone needs to do the math in order to realize that the MTA is also trying to balance the budget by collecting a tax from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Please add this to the bill and let’s stop paying this ridiculous surcharge on people who more than likely have nothing to do with the MTA in any way, shape or form.
    Thank you, Bob O’brien
