LoHud: Vietnam memorial replica will come to Putnam; vets raise money

7/4/2011 - Former service members, families and friends will have a chance to remember those who fell in the Vietnam War when a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial comes to Putnam County.

Pete Pennelle grew up in Greenburgh and served with the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines in Vietnam. He said he’s visited the actual memorial in Washington, D.C., and also viewed a replica when it passed through upstate Woodstock. Having a replica come to Putnam will bring a piece of history to the county, he said.

The full-sized memorial contains the names of more than 58,000 Americans, including, Pennelle said, “a very good friend of his,” who died or are missing in Vietnam. All of the names are on the 240-foot-long model that will be set up in the Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park in Kent in October. (READ MORE)
