EMERGENCY PRESS CONFERENCE CALL: SENATOR GREG BALL
CALLS FOR ONE-YEAR MORATORIUM ON FRACKING
Brewster, N.Y. – (12/20/11) – In the wake of the news that Gov. Andrew Cuomo will not allocate any funds to regulate hydraulic fracturing and gas drilling in next year’s executive budget proposal, Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) says swift action must be taken to pass a one-year moratorium on fracking.
“The DEC has taken steps towards allowing fracking to come into our backyard, so it’s now our responsibility to protect New Yorkers from the potentially devastating effects of hydraulic fracturing,” Senator Ball explained. “Without the funding in place to protect property, health and financial well-being, oil and gas companies will continue to rake in profits while raking communities over the proverbial coals.”
Senator Ball is currently leading a bi-partisan coalition of legislators concerned with hydrofracking and has drafted the “Property Owner’s Bill of Rights”, which would set tough, new standards for hydrofracking in New York.
Senator Ball encourages anyone who would like to learn more about this issue to attend his presentation on hydrofracking at the Lewisboro Library on December 21st at 7:30 p.m.
