Brewster, N.Y. – (5/21/12) – Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson), along with his Special Needs Advisory Council will be hosting a roundtable on Employment and Transition Opportunities for People with Disabilities, at the Mt. Kisco Library, located at 100 East Main Street Mount Kisco, NY 10549 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
At the roundtable, Senator Ball will also be honoring six local businesses who are currently providing employment opportunities for people with special needs.
“Many times after folks age out of the school systems the services that they rely on and need disappear,” said Senator Greg Ball. “It is so very important that we recognize and honor the companies that help those with disabilities transition into the work force to utilize their skills to better themselves, the community and the economy.”
“The transition from school to the adult world for students with disabilities and their families is more often than not a disaster,” said Senator Greg Ball’s Special Needs Advisory Council Chair Terry Pirraglia. “These student often never receive from their school districts the guidance and instruction in the vital skills necessary for adult life. The result is that a vast majority of students with disabilities leave school unprepared for the adult world. To make matters worse, when parents seek adult services for their child they soon realize that they are inadequate or worse non-existent. Many parents describe the transition process for their children like, “falling off a cliff, I look forward working with Senator Ball on this issue”.”
