Sen. Greg Ball (R,C-Patterson) received the Special Recognition Award at the annual Military Order of the Purple Heart convention held Saturday, May 5, at the Ramada Hotel in Newburgh.

Ball, who represents the 40th district in the Senate, was honored for his extensive work on behalf of veterans in his district. He is credited with creating a veterans hall of fame, passing legislation to protect military funerals from protest and securing $500,000 for a New York State veterans cemetery. Ball also serves as the chairman of the Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs Committee.

“As an Air Force Academy graduate, a former Air Force Officer and the chairman of Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs, this is a great honor, and I am very grateful to have been selected,” Ball said in a recently issued news release. “I am honored to serve as the state senator to so many veterans that have all chosen a path of courage, honor, integrity and bravery, a path that helped shape America as we know it, protecting our way of life and liberty.” Each year, the Military Order of the Purple Heart gives the Special Recognition Award to a leader who demonstrates inspirational leadership and distinguished service to veterans.
