Senator Greg Ball Instrumental in Securing Funds
The Pawling Green & Veterans’ Memorial Plaza project has received an important leg-up with the help of NYS Senator Greg Ball, who successfully secured a $250,000 New York State Economic Development Assistance Program Capitol Grant, reports Village Mayor Rob Liffland. The grant, approved in this legislative session, will boost sorely needed funding to advance the project further toward completion. A press event to present the grant award will take place in the Village of Pawling on Tuesday August 9, 10 a.m.
The residents of Pawling have largely underwritten the Pawling Green, a major project tocreate a walkable, pedestrian-friendly village center. The community has raised a remarkable $2.4 million dollars to fund this vital revitalization effort that includes projects to increase pedestrian access, provide an environmentally responsible and attractive village center, recognize the community’s veterans and support economic development. The Pawling Green is funded by donations and grants—no property taxes have been used to plan or build the Green.
The project broke ground in August 2010, and after a winter hiatus, has advanced steadily, with the construction team now focused oninstalling brick walkways throughout the Green. Memorial Daysaw the first event at the Green, with ceremonies marking therelocation of the Veterans’ memorials from the middle of Charles Colman Blvd to the new Plaza. (NEWS LETTER)
