PHILIPSTOWN DOT INFO: ASPIRING POLITICOS CAN SPEND A DAY WITH STATE SEN. BALL IN ALBANY: DEADLINE MAR. 31

Must Win Essay Contest

Aspiring young politicos can test the waters in Albany for a day with State Sen. Greg Ball, if they win a race of sorts -– an essay contest sponsored by the Republican senator, whose 40thdistrict includes Philipstown. Ball’s 2012 Outstanding Youth Award recipients will visit the state capitol with him and participate in a mock legislative session.

To qualify, student nominees must submit an essay of 200 words or less describing how they exemplify five qualities: ethics, community pride through volunteering, leadership, involvement in sports and/or extra-curricular activities, and excellence in academics. Entries should be sent to the senator’s office by March 31. Forms can be obtained by a phone call to Suzi McDonough at 845-279-3773 or found online through Ball’s website.

According to Ball’s office, schools also received information and forms. Winners “will get to spend the day with me to see firsthand what a day in the Senate is like, to see their state government in action,” Ball said.  “Maybe they’ll be inspired to serve this district in Albany someday!” (ARTICLE)
