Brewster, N.Y. – (1/30/12) – Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) is asking the 40th Senate District to submit nominations for his 2012 Outstanding Youth Award— winning students will have the opportunity to visit Albany with Senator Ball and participate in a “Legislative Mock Session”.

“Some of the most exceptional people I’ve gotten to meet over the past year aren’t even old enough to drive: kids working two part-time jobs and still making honor roll, athletes who are getting up at 5 or even 4 in the morning to get some practice time in before classes, kids giving up Saturdays with their friends to visit seniors they don’t even know,” Senator Ball said. “These kids are amazing.  They’re so driven.  They’re getting it done – getting good grades, working a job, and learning how to be responsible caretakers of their communities.  They’re why I give 110 percent every day, so that they can inherit strong communities that they can be proud to live and start their own families in.”

Nominees must submit a short essay (200 words or less) to Senator Ball’s office describing how they exemplify the following qualities:

  • Ethics
  • Community Pride Through Volunteering
  • Leadership
  • Sports and/or Extra-Curricular Activities
  • Academics

“They’ll get to spend the day with me to see firsthand what a day in the Senate is like, to see their state government in action,” said Senator Ball.  “Maybe they’ll be inspired to serve this district in Albany someday!”

The nomination forms can be accessed through Senator Ball’s website at, as well as in the students’ respective school or by calling Suzi McDonough at (845) 279-3773. Nomination forms must be submitted before March 2, 2012 to:
