Carmel, N.Y. – (3/30/12) – Over 30 women from throughout the Hudson Valley were honored at Senator Greg Ball’s (R, C – Patterson) Women of Distinction Hall of Fame. Among them was, Marie Turner
who was recognized for her distinguished volunteer service and civic commitment as a Woman of Distinction representing the Town of Cortlandt, New York.

Created and hosted by Senator Ball, The Women Of Distinction Hall of Fame was designed to honor outstanding women from throughout the 40th Senate District. Each city, town and village within the Senator’s district was asked to nominate a woman to be honored at the event. All the nominees were formally honored and inducted in the Hall of Fame at a district-wide ceremony at The Donald B. Smith, Putnam County Emergency Services Building in Carmel, NY.

Marie Turner worked for Hudson Valley Hospital Center for twenty-four years, serving as the Supervisor of Admitting and as an Emergency Room receptionist. Ms. Turner is also an avid volunteer in her community, serving on the Executive Board of the Hudson Valley Hospital Center Auxiliary as the Recording Secretary and the Auxiliary Historian, as chairperson of the Auxiliary’s Coffee Break Fundraiser, as a member of the Scholarship Awards committee, which awards a scholarship each year to a local student entering medical studies. Ms. Turner also volunteers with the 9/11 Buchanan-Cortlandt-Croton-On-Hudson Remembrance Memorial fundraising task force, the Peekskill-Cortlandt Garden Club, and with the Cortlandt Family Fun Day committee.

Ms. Turner is also a member of the Van Cortlandtville Historical Society Board of Directors, the NorCort Cortlandt Seniors, the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Choir and Priscilla Guild, and the Verplanck Seniors Club, where she serves as 2nd Vice President.

“I have not received awards,” Marie Turner noted. “I feel my achievement is that I am able to be an active member of the organizations that I volunteer for.”

“The woman who are here today were nominated by their communities, hand-picked because they chose a path of leadership, living a life of service before self,” said Senator Greg Ball. “Each one of these women here today is so well deserving of this honor because they have built a reputation of action, compassion and integrity a path that that stands as an example to all.”
