Mt. Kisco, N.Y. – 10/23/2012 – Senator Greg Ball (Patterson – R, C) was at the Mt. Kisco Town Hall on Monday night to accept Mt. Kisco Village Boards nomination of Santo Asaro into the 2nd Annual Veterans’ Hall of Fame.
The Veterans’ Hall of Fame was created by Senator Ball, and designed to honor outstanding veterans from throughout the 40th Senate District. Each veteran that will be honored will be included on a traveling wall that will tour local municipalities throughout the 40th district.
Santo Asaro served for 22 months in the United States Army in the 746th Tank Battalion as a Private 1st Class assigned as a tank operator. Asaro stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, and earned Battle Stars in the Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland.
For his service Santo also received the World War II Victory Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, a Presidential Citation from President Harry S. Truman, and was inducted into the French Legion of Honor.
Santo Asaro has been a member of the American Legion Post 136 for 66 years, and has served as Post Commander
“It is a wonderful honor to accept Asaro as Mt. Kisco’s nomination into the 2nd Annual Veterans’ Hal of Fame. Santo served with great honor and courage during his days of service in WWII and especially on the D-Day invasion. We don’t need to turn on the television or go to the movies to see a hero, we are standing in front of one today,” said Senator Greg Ball.
“Santo has distinguished himself by going into local schools to speak to school children for many years as an active member of the American legion,” said Mount Kisco Mayor Mayor Michael Cindrich “Santo has really distinguished himself as one of America’s finest.
