Carmel, N.Y. – (3/30/12) – Over 30 women from throughout the Hudson Valley were honored at Senator Greg Ball’s (R, C – Patterson) Women of Distinction Hall of Fame. Among them was, Nancy Tanner who was recognized for her distinguished volunteer service and civic commitment as a Woman of Distinction representing the Village of Pawling, New York.

Created and hosted by Senator Ball, The Women Of Distinction Hall of Fame was designed to honor outstanding women from throughout the 40th Senate District. Each city, town and village within the Senator’s district was asked to nominate a woman to be honored at the event. All the nominees were formally honored and inducted in the Hall of Fame at a district-wide ceremony at The Donald B. Smith, Putnam County Emergency Services Building in Carmel, NY.

In 1976, Nancy Tanner created, opened, and managed the Book Cove in the Village of Pawling. Ms. Tanner has served as President of the Pawling Chamber of Commerce, President of the Railroad Freight Station Restoration, Chairperson of the Master Plan Steering Committing, which was a dedicated adjunct of the Village of Pawling Planning Board for the revitalization of the community by updating the master plan and village zoning codes, Director of the Pawling Community Foundation, a trustee of the Akin Hall Association, Secretary of the Pawling Concert Series, and a member of the Town of Pawling Master Plan Update Committee.

Ms. Tanner has earned the 2006 “Good Scout” Award from the Hudson Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the 1994 Key Bank of New York “President’s Award for Volunteerism and Generous Community Service,” the Mizzentop Day School “Volunteerism” Award, and the 1994 YMCA of Greater New York “Volunteer of the Year” Award.

In 2011, with the Pawling Village Green groundbreaking, Mayor Robert Liffland presented Ms. Tanner with the “Master of the Green” award for her commitment to the village’s revitalization.

“The woman who are here today were nominated by their communities, hand-picked because they chose a path of leadership, living a life of service before self,” said Senator Greg Ball. “Each one of these women here today is so well deserving of this honor because they have built a reputation of action, compassion and integrity a path that that stands as an example to all.”
