SENATOR BALL ISSUES STATEMENT ON END OF SESSION SAFE ACT NEGOTIATIONS

Calls On Second Amendment Advocates To Contact Their Senator

Albany, N.Y. – 6/20/2013 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee issued the following statement in regards to end of session SAFE Act negotiations.

“As the end of session nears, there is a push amongst my colleagues to amend the Governor’s SAFE Act for retired law enforcement, without standing firm in including private security and home exemptions, among other changes. While I co-sponsor, S4536A, a bill to protect our retired law enforcement community I must stand firm in my efforts to get the broadest changes, if not a full out repeal, and ask that every law abiding, second amendment advocate in this state call their State Senator and ask they allow more time so we can achieve the widest possible protections of our constitutional rights; rights that were eviscerated by our most recent actions. The question isn’t about protecting retired law enforcement, because we can and will get that done. It’s about standing firm and finally having the intestinal fortitude to get the greatest protections possible for the greatest number of law abiding citizens,” said Senator Greg Ball.
