Carmel, N.Y. – 10/10/2012 – Senator Greg Ball (Patterson – R, C) is now happy to announce, that as a result of a three-way agreement between the Governor, Senate and Assembly, funds are now available for a $250,000 grant for a Community Center for the residents of Mahopac and Carmel.
The grant will allow the Town of Carmel to begin the engineering and architectural work for a town community center that is proposed in the Town of Carmel’s Master Plan to be built at Sycamore Park in Mahopac.
“This is something we are so excited about. We have been talking about this for a long time and the improvements are finally coming to Sycamore Park,” said Jim Gilchrist, Carmel Department of Recreations Director. “This $250,000 grant from Senator Greg Ball will get the ball rolling on infrastructure improvements for Sycamore Park.”
This funding will allow Carmel to move forward with the Master Plan in relocating the basketball courts, renovating the tennis courts and doing demo work to some of the old cottages. The Community Center will encompass space for the Senior Citizens, as well as space for arts and crafts, recreation and meeting rooms.
“This project will help our seniors, kids and all residents and I couldn’t be happier to deliver this grant for the town of Carmel,” said Senator Greg Ball. “I am proud to fight to bring as much of our tax money back from Albany, to home, where it belongs. Working with the Town and all local electeds, I believe we can get this done. As long as I am in office I will continue to fight for the Town of Carmel.”
Senator Greg Ball presented a ceremonial check to the Carmel Town Board on Wednesday night during their regularly scheduled meeting.
“On behalf of the residents in Carmel and the town board I would like to thank Senator Ball for being proactive and for securing this grant,” said Carmel Town Supervisor Ken Schmitt. “This new recreation center will benefit for all the residents of Carmel in a huge way.”
“The town of Carmel currently does not have a community center and this is a much needed service for all of the residents of our town. It will be a perfect addition to our wonderful town where Senior Citizens and the youth can come together,” said Carmel Town Councilmember Suzi McDonough.
