Ball Joins Peekskill Youth for Grand Opening of Peekskill Be First Boxing

Peekskill, N.Y. – (2/4/2012) – Senator Greg Ball (R, C-Patterson) stepped into the boxing ring on Saturday, February 4th with some of the youngest members of Peekskill Be First Boxing at the grand opening celebration of the non-profit’s new location at 1137 Main Street.

Be First Boxing looks to promote health and wellness among the community and inspire and motivate children and young adults to stay healthy and active.  Its founders stress that the epidemic of childhood obesity is not just a national issue, but a local one, and Peekskill Be First Boxing is making efforts to counteract childhood obesity with strong efforts to increase its young membership.  The gym has also seen a rise in membership among women and will soon offer a women’s Zumba dance class.

“The efforts made by Peekskill Be First Boxing to promote an active and healthy lifestyle among the Peekskill community are truly inspiring,” said Senator Ball.  “It was great to see so many kids and young adults at this event participating in the fitness demonstrations.  They were impressive!”
