Mount Kisco, N.Y.– 2/2/2012—Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) will join patients and staff of Northern Westchester Hospital on Thursday to celebrate the newly constructed radiology imaging suite, which connects directly to the hospital ER, and to present a $250,000 grant for this much needed upgrade.
“With a lagging economy and continued budget cuts, we need to make sure that our healthcare facilities don’t fall through the cracks,” Senator Ball said. “This upgrade expands the kind of quality care that our community expects and deserves.”
Housed in this new imaging center are the very latest in CT and Radiography (X-Ray) technologies. Two Carestream wireless and filmless Direct Radiography systems are integrated with a Quantum Radiography suite and a GE Portable X-Ray unit. This system eliminates x-ray film and enables radiology images to be sent directly to high resolution computer monitors anywhere in the hospital for evaluation.
These images can also be accessed remotely by specialists outside of the hospital for consultation if needed. To complete the new imaging suite, a General Electric HD750 Dual Energy CT Scanning system was installed. In addition to delivering the lowest radiation dose available today, the dual energy capability enables clinicians to differentiate between hard and soft artery plaque, a leading cause of stroke and heart attack, all while eliminating the shadows and artifact images caused by implanted hardware, such as surgical screws and wires.
“A seamless integration between the Mary and David Boies Emergency Department and radiology is essential for providing rapid assessment of a patient’s injuries. Providing high quality images, with the least radiation exposure, creates a safe environment for patients, while enabling physicians to view high quality images needed for effective patient care,” commented David Natoli, Administrative Director of Imaging and Cardiology Services.
“Northern Westchester Hospital is a not-for-profit hospital, so community support and grants such as this, enable our medical experts to continue providing the high quality care that our patients have grown to expect,” stated Hatsy Brown-Vallar, President of the Northern Westchester Hospital Foundation.
