Peekskill, N.Y. – (2/18/12) – The Peekskill community descended on the Peekskill Salvation Army for a free community barbeque hosted by Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson).
The cookout, which was open to the public, was a chance for Senator Ball to meet face-to-face with his constituents and to share his love of Peekskill.
“Cookouts like these give me the perfect opportunity to speak to the people of Peekskill and get a real understanding of what’s on their mind,” Senator Ball said. “I got to meet so many wonderful people today and I can’t wait for our next Peekskill BBQ.”
Envoy Chaka Watch runs the Peekskill Salvation Army said, “This is real people. This is real Senator Ball. He interacts with the people in this community and I think that is a beautiful thing.”
Peekskill resident Pedro Davila had the opportunity to discuss taxes and sportsmen’s issues with Senator Ball during the BBQ.
“I’m glad that he came to town to visit us and I really feel welcome because he greeted us with open arms,” Davila said. “He did listen to all of my comments and he took interest in them. By coming to town it shows the people that there is someone here for them and he is here for us.”
This was the second time comedian James McNair attended one of Senator Ball’s Peekskill barbeques, and he said he was impressed that Senator Ball kept his promise to return to the city for more cookouts.
“The last time he gave me his word and from the last time he kept his word,” McNair said. “I see his honesty and integrity. He’s never given his word yet that he didn’t keep. That’s important.”
Before the BBQ began, Senator Ball celebrated Lincoln’s 203rd Birthday and the 151st Anniversary of Lincoln’s visit to Peekskill by taking part in the Lincoln Society’s 108th annual parade. The parade ended at the Peekskill train depot where Senator Ball and other members of the Peekskill community had the opportunity to speak.
“It was a lot of fun to step back in time and walk through the streets of historic Peekskill led by President Lincoln,” Senator Ball said. “Now, I can say I had the opportunity to share the stage and shake hands with President Lincoln!”
Senator Ball will be back another free community BBQ in Peeksill on April 15th at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church at 1p.m.
