Putnam Valley, N.Y.  – (3/8/12) – On Thursday, Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) presented his traveling Veterans’ Wall of Fame at Putnam Valley High School.

Created and hosted by Senator Ball, the Veterans’ Hall of Fame is designed to honor outstanding veterans from throughout the 40th Senate District. The wall is touring local municipalities throughout the 40th district.

Ball stressed the purpose of having the wall at a school to teach students about the personal sacrifices the nation’s veterans are making on behalf of their communities.

“These veterans are real life heroes and deserve to be thanked and appreciated. Yet I also think it really helps the students to recognize that so many people before them have really contributed to keeping the principles of democracy and liberty and freedom alive. The school is to be applauded for welcoming this tribute and I am so proud to see these kids pay such great respect to these veterans who have lived such a selfless life, both in uniform and in their civilian lives,” Senator Ball said.  “I think it helps to make history come alive for them.”

Mary Monte, The Chief of Staff of The Ladies Auxiliary to The Veteran’s of Foreign Wars said, “I am honored and thrilled to be at the opening of Senator Ball’s traveling wall. It enlightens so many people and informs our children, especially when it travels to the schools, what is going on outside of their little world. This will also hopefully help everybody to make sure that no Veteran is ever forgotten.”

The wall was extra special for Putnam Valley Senior, Diane Rush who has two brothers in the military and two cousins that were serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Diane, who is also the president of make a difference club, said, “I think it is super important for this wall to be here. I love when this stuff comes to the school. Students don’t really understand how much our county does for them.”

Dr. Barbara Fuchs, Superintendent of Schools said, “I want to thank Senator Ball for coming here today to honor our Veterans. I also want to thank all the student’s that have come to see this wonderful display.

“I think this is a wonderful opportunity for high school students to recognize the sacrifices our veterans have made since they are the future leaders of our nation,” said Putnam Valley High School teacher Bea Cefaloni.

The wall will remain on display at Putnam Valley High School for one week before it is moved to Mahopac High School on March 16th. The pubic can view the wall at Putnam Valley High School everyday afterschool from 2pm – 6pm.
