Senator Greg Ball & Brian Avery

Brewster, N.Y. – (11/24/2013) – Senator Greg Ball (R,C,I-Patterson), Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, issued the following statement commending Yorktown resident, Brian Avery, for rescuing two neighbors from a house fire on Sunday afternoon.

“Brian Avery is a hero and I commend him for his swift and heroic efforts today in saving two Yorktown residents from a house fire. I first met Mr. Avery in 2011 when he reached out to my office for help with a health insurance issue for his family. I was happy to help, and we were able to solve the issue in a timely matter,” said Senator Greg Ball. “Since that day, Brian has volunteered at nearly all of our veterans events, giving back to our veterans and our community. When Brian isn’t serving in the National Guard, he enjoys photography; he has graciously donated his time volunteering to take photos at our Veterans Hall of Fame and Veterans Thanksgiving Dinner events. I would like to personally thank Brian, along with the police, fire and EMS first responders, for their heroic efforts. Brian is a hero, and should be commended for his selfless dedication to our community.”
