Philipstown, N.Y. – 02/05/2014 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) was happy to announce that Philipstown recently received a $200,000 state grant for capital improvements to the Community Recreation Center, in Garrison.
The $200,000 state grant was applied for a installation of a new boiler system at the Claudio Marzollo Community Center. The projected also involved removing asbestos and the removal and replacement of an underground oil tank.
“While I unfortunately no longer represent the people of Philipstown, I worked to safeguard and secure these dollars as the Senator previously, and I am thrilled to announce that this grant has been fully funded. In fact, the funds were finally cleared back in November of last year,” said Senator Greg Ball. “This state grant was critical for the capital project at the Community Center and I look forward to continuing to be a partner in the future.”
Putnam County Legislator Barbara Scuccimarra, who represents the Philipstown area said she was delighted that the town has received the grant.
“This truly was teamwork at its best. Former Supervisor Bill Mazzucca initiated this grant back in 2008 along with the help of Town Clerk Tina Merando who wrote it. I would like to thank Senator Ball, for his work to ensure Philipstown received this $200,000 grant. This money has gone a long way for our Community Center. They were in dire need of a new boiler, and this critical grant helped make it possible,” said Legislator Scuccimarra.
