Montrose, N.Y. – 12/21/2013 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson), Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, joined his Faith Based, Veteran and Student Advisory Councils to spread holiday joy at the Montrose VA on Friday evening.
Senator Greg Ball, along with his advisory councils, delivered dozens of bags and boxes of winter clothing to the Montrose VA Clothing Room. The donations included, shirts, pants, diabetic socks, underwear, warm coats, gloves, hats and shoes for residents at the Montrose VA Hospital.
When Senator Ball heard that veterans were in need of winter clothing, he mobilized his advisory councils to host an immediate clothing drive. Senator Ball set up numerous locations throughout the Hudson Valley area to collect clothing for veterans at both the Montrose and Castle Point VA Hospitals.
“I would like to thank everyone that has been involved in this clothing drive. This clothing will go a long way to ensure that our local veterans are well dressed this winter,” said Senator Greg Ball. “It is sad to think, but many of our local Hudson Valley veterans are in need of warm clothing for the winter months ahead. Our veterans have given so much for us, and it breaks my heart to think that some of these heroes lack basic necessities. As a community, we have a duty to ensure they are provided for. No New Yorker, especially a veteran, should go without warm clothing this winter.”
After dropping off the clothing, Senator Ball’s team traveled throughout the VA singing Christmas Carols to spread holiday joy.
“During this Season of Giving we are mindful that there are many, many people who lack the basic necessities of life – food, shelter, and clothing. In 2012, our Veteran’s Hospitals served more than 240,000 Veterans who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless- 21 percent more than the year before,” said Father Thomas Lutz, Chairman of Senator Greg Ball’s Faith Based Advisory Council.
“It is getting very cold and some of these veterans are in dire need of warm clothing,” said Eugene Parrotta, Chairman of Senator Greg Ball’s Veterans Advisory Council. “We appreciate Senator Ball and his team for everything they do for our veterans. Using the Senator’s large network, we should be able to collect a large amount of clothing for our veterans this winter.”
Senator Ball will continue the clothing drive throughout the winter.
