Carmel, N.Y. – 12/13/2013 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) joined 41 young adults on Wednesday evening at the Putnam County Youth Court 26th Graduation Ceremony.
Senator Ball honored each graduate with a New York State Senate Certificate of Merit for completing a 10-week training course and being sworn in as Putnam County Youth Court members.
“These young men and women are the future of Putnam County, the world is their oyster. It is my honor to join them along with their parents and family on this very special day,” said Senator Greg Ball. “The Putnam County Youth Court is fundamentally important in reducing the crime rate in our area by teaching our youth about our judicial system and encouraging them to get actively involved.”
The Youth Court Program is a peer court program established to reduce incidents of juvenile crime by serving as a community based alternative to Family Court. Volunteer members throughout Putnam County participate in a 10 week training program that prepares them to serve in the roles of Judge, Defense Attorney, Prosecuting Attorney, Court Clerk and Officer in actual cases of youth under 16 charged with a crime.
