The chairman of Cortlandt’s Hudson Valley Veterans Committee was recently inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame by Senator Greg Ball (R,C.I/Patterson).

William “Willy” Nazario, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and has been a vocal opponent of reducing services at the VA Hospital in Montrose, was nominated last year by Cortlandt officials to join Ball’s Veterans’ Hall of Fame in Brewster and is currently the commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart for New York State.

“Willy works tirelessly every day to help countless veterans from across New York State,” Ball said. “America is not a great country because of its politicians, it’s a great country because of our veterans like Willy.”

Nazario has earned many medals and awards for his military service, including the Military Order of the Purple Heart 2012-2013National Patriot of the Year and 2011 Male Volunteer of the Year for the VAHudson Valley Health Care System. For the past five years, he has also conducted a Coat and Clothing Drive for the Montrose VA Clothing Store.

“It was an honor for me to serve our country in the Vietnam War and it’s my pleasure to continue to give back to our community and our returning veterans,” Nazario said. “I would like to thank Senator Greg Ball for selecting me as his nominee and for the tireless work he does for veterans. This is a great day for my family and I.”

Nazario, 65, was born in Puerto Rico and retired from the United States Postal Service in 1997. (ARTICLE)
