Yorktown, N.Y. – 1/05/2012 – Senator Greg Ball’s (Patterson – R, C, I) Director of Operations, Charlie Duffy presented Kevin Costello, Michael Volpe and Eric Keitz of Yorktown Boy Scout Troop 165 with New York State Senate Proclamations for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

Eagle Scout is the highest possible rank in the Boy Scouts of America. The Eagle Scout is an honor that is held for life and is said, “once an Eagle, always an Eagle.”

“It’s an honor for me to honor these great young men. Kevin, Mike and Eric make all of us very proud and I congratulate their families on this special day,” said Senator Greg Ball. “A very small percentage of scouts ever make it to this ranking and I would like to congratulate Mike, Eric and Kevin on all their hard work to achieve this great honor.”

Kevin’s project was performed for the George Washington Elementary School where he developed, planned and led fellow scouts and adults in the redesign and beautification of the flagpole island. The project included the clearing out of the weeds and brush to create a safe and attractive walkway into the school. The walkway included a George Washington Walk of Fame, where commemorative bricks paved the pathway.

Michael’s project was performed for the SPCA in Briarcliff Manor where he developed, planned and led fellow scouts and adults in the construction and installation of two fences which created training and social areas for the dogs. The project also included a successful food and supply drive for the SPCA.

Eric’s Eagle Scout project was composed of two parts; The first component was to promote and host a successful blood drive for the New York Blood Center. A total of 42 pints of blood were donated to the Center. The second component benefited the Town of Yorktown where he planned, developed and led fellow scouts and adults on identifying and marking non-hydrant water sources. This identification is used by mutual-aid departments in easily locating the water sources during fire emergencies.
