Peekskill, N.Y. – 9/29/2012 – Senator Greg Ball (Patterson – R, C) was joined by Abraham Lincoln look-alike to present a $100,000 grant that has been successfully secured for the Peekskill Lincoln Depot Museum.
One of the most historic buildings in Westchester County is rapidly being transformed into what will be among the most sophisticated and exciting museums and educational facilities in the area, as Peekskill’s Lincoln Depot Building moves into an advanced restoration process. Senator Greg Ball, the Lincoln Depot Foundation and President Abraham Lincoln look-alike will host a check presentation on Saturday at 11AM as the Lincoln Depot unveils a historic stove that has been donated to the depot.
Senator Ball is happy to announce, that as a result of a three-way agreement between the Governor, Senate and Assembly, funds are now available for a $100,000 grant.
The Museum’s most prominent feature right now is a life-sized statue of Abraham Lincoln giving his only speech in Westchester County. The speech took place on the depot site located in Peekskill 150 years ago as part of President-elect Abraham Lincoln’s historic trip from Springfield to Washington D.C. in 1861.
“I couldn’t be happier to deliver this grant for Peekskill to the Lincoln Depot Foundation,” said Senator Greg Ball. “This facility is going to drive jobs and foot traffic to Peekskill. I am proud to fight to bring as much of our tax money back from Albany, to home, where it belongs. As long as I am in office I will continue to fight for this wonderful historical cause and the hidden jewel of Peekskill.”
“We are absolutely ecstatic to receive this grant from Senator Greg Ball. We have a lot of public programing that we want to roll out over the next 24 months and this will be a huge help,” said Susan Jacobson, Executive Director of the Lincoln Depot Foundation. “There is a lot of history here in Peekskill and we are very excited to use this grant to tell these stories.”
