ORISKANY, N.Y. — The importance of the military and security facilities in Oneida County cannot be underestimated. That was the message of the State Senate’s Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee chairman during a visit to some of those sites.

State Senator Greg Ball toured the State Preparedness Training Center in Oriskany Thursday. He was invited by fellow committee member Senator Joseph Griffo to learn about the work the center does to prepare first responders in the event of an emergency.

Ball says New York State is among the top targets for terrorists and remaining vigilant means maintaining funding for such vital facilities.

“We have seen in budget battles where New York State and our larger security is put on the chopping block. It’s going to be critically important to use a scalpel instead of a chainsaw during budget negotiations, and we’re going to fight hard at both the state and federal level to maintain these facilities,” said Senator Ball.

Ball and Griffo also visited the Eastern Air Defense Sector in Rome. (ARTICLE)
